The test detects microalbumin, a type of protein, in the urine. Protein is present in the urine when there is damage to the kidneys. Since the damage to blood vessels that occurs as a complication of diabetes can lead to kidney problems, the microalbumin test is done to check for damage to the kidneys over time. Test is done when you may be at risk for kidney damage or kidney disease, The microalbuminuria test is a urine test that measures the amount of albumin in your urine. Albumin is a protein that your body uses for cell growth and to help repair tissues. It’s normally present in the blood. A certain level of it in your urine may be a sign of kidney damage.
Micro-Albumin/Creatinine Ratio = Albumin (mg/L) / Creatinine (g/L)
Example : Micro-Albumin at 10 mg/L, Creatinine at 100mg/dL= 1g/L
The ratio of Micro-Albumin/Creatinine is 10/1 =10
Result < 30 mg/g(Normal)
Unit(mg/g) : Microalbumin(mg/L)/Creatinine(g/L)
